A Chinese doctor executed a surgical procedure 5000 kilometers distant

On July 30, a Chinese oncologist-surgeon successfully conducted a complex operation aimed at excising a malignant tumor from the patient's lungs, despite being situated 5000 kilometers away. This information was disseminated by the Ministry of Health's information service, referencing foreign press sources.

It has been noted that the patient, residing in the Sinsang-Uyghur Autonomous Region, required oncological surgery. However, due to the insufficient availability of qualified specialists at the local medical facility, the decision was made to employ a robotic surgical system developed by the Chinese company "MEDBOT."

The procedure was overseen by Lo Sinsuan, the scientific director of the oncology department at Shanghai Hospital and the lead surgeon. Notably, despite the considerable distance separating the patient and the surgeon, signal transmission experienced minimal disruptions or delays during the robotic control process facilitated by a 5G communication network.

"Robotic surgery represents one of the most advanced minimally invasive techniques, characterized by high precision and a reduced risk of complications. Consequently, patients exhibit accelerated recovery post-surgery,"

states Lo.
