Gold worth 1.3 billion soums seized at Tashkent airport

A large quantity of undeclared jewelry and gold bars was found during an inspection of the luggage of a passenger arriving in Uzbekistan from abroad at Tashkent International Airport.

The incident was detected at the Tashkent-AERO Specialized Customs Complex. This was reported by the press service of the customs complex.

According to the information provided, the passenger entered the country on the Dubai–Tashkent route. During customs control, an inspection of the passenger’s luggage revealed valuable items that had not been declared.

During the inspection, 141 pieces of jewelry with a total net weight of 921.37 grams, as well as three gold bars, were found.

According to the expert assessment, the total value of the confiscated jewelry and gold bars was estimated at 1 billion 293 million soums.

In addition, the passenger’s luggage contained 120 packs of tobacco products without excise stamps and 90 units of nicotine snus.

A criminal case has now been opened in connection with the incident. Investigative proceedings are ongoing.
