80 percent of Central Asia’s intra-regional exports come from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan

Trade between the Central Asian states reached 8.1 billion dollars. However, in this process, two countries have mainly taken the leading positions.

In the first seven months of 2026, mutual trade between the Central Asian states increased significantly. According to the Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) of Uzbekistan, in January–July, mutual trade among the countries of the region amounted to 8.1 billion dollars, increasing by 25.4 percent compared to the same period in 2025.

Kazakhstan accounted for the largest share of intra-regional exports. In January–July, the country supplied 4.5 billion dollars’ worth of products to other Central Asian states. This is 26.8 percent more than the figure a year earlier. Kazakhstan increased its share of intra-regional exports to 55.9 percent.

Uzbekistan is the second-largest exporter in the region. In January–July, the country’s exports to other Central Asian states reached 2 billion dollars. This figure increased by 34.5 percent year-on-year. Uzbekistan’s share of intra-regional exports amounts to 24.7 percent.

Uzbekistan’s total trade turnover with the Central Asian states reached 5.4 billion dollars during this period, increasing by 28.2 percent. The largest part of it was accounted for by trade with Kazakhstan: trade turnover between the two countries reached 3.3 billion dollars.

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan together accounted for 80.6 percent of exports among the Central Asian states. Nearly 90 percent of the overall growth in intra-regional trade also came from these two countries.

Intra-regional exports of the remaining countries:

Turkmenistan – 844 million dollars (10.4 percent);

Kyrgyzstan – 523 million dollars (6.4 percent);

Tajikistan – 209 million dollars (2.6 percent).

The growth in trade in the region is not observed only between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan’s trade with Kyrgyzstan increased by 53.8 percent in January–July, while trade with Tajikistan increased by 44.9 percent. Trade turnover with Kyrgyzstan amounted to 776.7 million dollars, while trade with Tajikistan amounted to 565 million dollars. In other words, the geography of intra-regional trade is also expanding in some smaller directions.
