Afghanistan bans fireworks at weddings and celebrations

The relevant document was approved by the Taliban government’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.

According to CentralAsia, citing Pajhwok.com, the ministry said fireworks can cause fear, anxiety and psychological distress. Officials described the ban as a measure intended to protect public safety and maintain public order.

The document states that celebrations in Afghanistan must comply with Islamic norms and Sharia principles. It also prohibits activities that could cause panic among the public, including children, women and older people.

The restrictions apply to shops selling pyrotechnics, importers, manufacturers and traders, as well as people and businesses directly or indirectly involved in producing or supplying such products to the country.

The ministry urged citizens and business owners to refrain from using or distributing the prohibited goods. Violators may face measures under Afghan law and Sharia provisions, although the authorities have not specified the exact penalties.

Local media report that fireworks restrictions had previously been in force in some Afghan cities, where their use was prohibited at night, from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. The newly announced measure is described as a nationwide ban covering celebrations more broadly.

In this context, South and Central Asia, including Afghanistan, are becoming key zones of geopolitical rivalry, especially for Iran.
