US F-16 fighter jet crashes near air base in Germany

A US F-16 fighter jet crashed on Tuesday near Spangdahlem Air Base in western Germany, the US military said.
The pilot safely ejected from the aircraft and was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

According to the military, the cause of the crash is not yet known. Emergency response personnel are working at the scene.
The F-16 was reportedly returning to Spangdahlem Air Base after a scheduled training flight involving four fighter jets.

The other three F-16s were diverted to Ramstein Air Base, where they landed safely.

An investigation into the incident has been launched.
