Trump Advisers Joke About Seeking Asylum in Israel

Tony Fabrizio, chief pollster for Donald Trump’s team, jokingly suggested that colleagues seek political asylum in Israel if Republicans perform poorly in the midterm elections.

Trump Advisers Joke About Seeking Asylum in Israel

According to The New York Times, the remark was made during a private video conference involving senior aides to the US president and political strategists. The conversation took place six days before the midterm vote.

“Maybe we should seek asylum in Israel,” Fabrizio said.

Another Trump adviser, political strategist James Blair, responded sarcastically:

“At least Bibi won. He’ll protect us.”

He was referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to the newspaper, the participants were joking. There has been no report of any actual plans to leave the United States or seek political asylum in another country.
