Russia strikes bridge over Dnipro in Zaporizhzhia, five people injured

Russian forces struck one of the bridges across the Dnipro River in Zaporizhzhia overnight on October 6, according to Mykhailo Semikin, acting head of the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration.

Five people were injured, including two Red Cross workers who were travelling to work, as well as two women and a man.

Traffic on the bridge was temporarily suspended after the road surface was damaged.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service also reported that a Russian drone hit a nine-storey residential building in Zaporizhzhia on the evening of October 5. An apartment on the fifth floor and a balcony on the sixth floor caught fire. Two people were injured.

Meanwhile, a fire broke out on the roof of an educational institution in Kyiv’s Obolon district overnight on October 6. No casualties were reported.

Russian forces had previously targeted bridges across the Dnipro in Kyiv. Russia’s Defence Ministry confirmed the attacks and claimed the bridges were used to transport Ukrainian troops and military supplies to the Donetsk region.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had earlier warned that Russia was preparing to intensify attacks on major Ukrainian cities and seek to cut them off from the rest of the country.
