Nearly half of the applicants did not pass the test

This year, 46,9 percent (345 000) of the applicants who participated in the entrance examination for higher education institutions in Uzbekistan were unable to achieve a score of at least 56,7 points, as reported by the Knowledge Assessment Agency.

According to the data, a total of 737 351 applicants took the test this year, which reflects a decrease of 151 000 applicants compared to the previous year. Among those who took the test, 345 869 applicants failed to score a minimum of 56,7 points.

An analysis conducted by blogger and lawyer Khushnudek Khudoyberdiyev suggests that this outcome is an improvement relative to last year.

"Overall, there is a discernible positive trend from year to year. Last year, 49,4 percent, or more specifically, 439 000 applicants did not achieve at least 56,7 points; this year, this figure has improved by 2,5 percent. In 2024, the region with the most concerning results is Syrdarya, with 51,8 percent, whereas a relatively better performance was observed in the city of Tashkent, at 35,9 percent,"

he noted.

Last year, more than 50 percent of applicants in eight regions scored below 56,7 points; this year, the number of such regions has decreased to four. The Jizzakh, Navoi, Kashkadarya, and Tashkent regions demonstrated improved outcomes by moving below the 50 percent threshold.

The following regions ranked among the top five for improvement compared to last year:

Tashkent city — 4,9 percent;
Tashkent region — 4,9 percent;
Jizzakh region — 3,7 percent;
Bukhara region — 3,5 percent;
Syrdarya region — an increase of 3,1 percent.

"The score of 56,7 points corresponds to 30 percent of the maximum possible score of 189 points. Thus, if an applicant possesses at least 30 percent knowledge, they can attain this score. Notably, achieving 30 percent knowledge equates to not even two marks according to the rating system; it may be as little as one correct response,"

the blogger concluded.
