In Uzbekistan, all school graduates will take an exam in the state language

Now, even graduates from classes where the language of instruction is not Uzbek will have to take the exam in the state language, Uzbek. This was announced by the Minister of Preschool and School Education, Hilola Umarova, on her Telegram channel.

According to the Minister of Preschool and School Education's order No. 65 dated February 20, 2025, the procedure for conducting the final state certification in general secondary education institutions has been established. 

Based on this document, a list of subjects for the final state certification and the forms of the exams, as well as a list of nationally and internationally recognized certificates for assessing proficiency in general education subjects and foreign languages, have been approved. 

Accordingly, the final state certification for 9th-grade students will be:

— Mother tongue and literature (for classes where the language of instruction is Uzbek) – written;
— State language (for classes where the language of instruction is not Uzbek) – written;
— Mathematics – written;
— History of Uzbekistan – written/oral;
— Physical Education – practical. 

The final state certification for 11th-grade students will be: 

— Mother tongue and literature (for classes where the language of instruction is Uzbek) – written;
— State language (for classes where the language of instruction is not Uzbek) – written;
— Mathematics (Basic) / Mathematics (Advanced) – written;
— History – written.

At the student's choice: 

Mother tongue and literature (for classes where instruction is in Karakalpak, Russian, Kazakh, Turkmen, Tajik, Kyrgyz languages), Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Basic Law, Geography – written;
— Foreign language – written/oral. 

Furthermore, starting from 2025, graduates of 11th grade in general secondary education institutions, where the language of instruction is not Uzbek, will also be required to take the final state exams in the State language.
