"Efforts for peace need fair guarantees, not just lip service," he said. According to the Turkish leader, the only way to achieve lasting peace is to establish an independent, sovereign and geographically integrated Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem within the borders of 1967.
"Now everyone knows that peace cannot be established in the Middle East until a just solution to the Palestinian-Israeli problem is found," Erdogan added.
Erdogan explained Israel's "corrupt and lawless position" with the support of Western countries. Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey is in solidarity with the Palestinian people, that the Turkish government has received more than 900 patients from the Gaza Strip for treatment, and that it is working on building a field hospital in the enclave.
M. Abbas, for his part, stressed that the international community must protect the Palestinian people. "Efforts should be strengthened to ensure international protection of Palestine," he said, stressing that Palestine should become a member of the United Nations.
M. Abbas expressed gratitude for Turkey's activity and said that he appreciates Erdogan's position.
