Nineteen Uzbek nationals wanted under international arrest warrants are currently residing in South Korea.

As of August 12, a total of 110 foreign nationals wanted for crimes committed abroad were living in the country. The figure was disclosed by the National Police Agency in data submitted to ruling Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Joon-hyung, koreajoongangdaily.com reported.

By nationality, Chinese citizens account for the largest share of wanted individuals, with 40 people on Interpol's wanted list — 36 percent of the total. Uzbekistan follows with 19 nationals, and Mongolia with 17.

Fraud was the most common offense, accounting for 47 cases. The "other" category — covering kidnapping, unlawful confinement, and human trafficking — included 29 cases. The remaining offenses involved drug-related violations, theft, traffic law violations, and bodily harm.

To step up efforts against internationally wanted criminals, the Korean National Police Agency this year expanded its dedicated unit's staff from 22 to 64 officers. As a result, repatriations of wanted foreign nationals have also increased: 13 people were repatriated last year, compared to 24 between January and August of this year.
